October 2, 2010
St. Francois State Park
8920 US Hwy 67 North
Bonne Terre, MO 63628
As part of the Children in Nature Challenge, St. Francois State Park will be hosting a “Family Play Day” on Saturday, October 2, 2010, from 1:00 pm to 4:00 pm. This event will feature more than a dozen activities to encourage families to get outside playing and exploring together.
Studies show that children (and even adults!) benefit greatly from time spent outdoors. Children who spend time outside have better memory and concentration and do better both academically and socially. They are also less likely to be obese. So let’s get outside and play together! SLAGA will set up a booth and a temporary cache course to introduce families to geocaching. SLAGA members can volunteer to help with this event by contacting This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it..
Other activities at Play Day will include: explore a creek, fly a kite, play games, build a fort, and take a hike. Visitors will be encouraged to play at each station for as little or as long as they’d like -- as long as they are having fun! Call the park office at 573-358-2173 for more details.

The 2010 SLAGA Spring Picnic will be hosted by Crowesfeat30 this Saturday, May 1, and will be part of a worldwide multi-event celebrating 10 years of geocaching! Come check out the brand new Sugar Creek and Lions Shelters in beautiful Kirkwood Park in Kirkwood, Missouri. These twin shelters each can hold 150 people. Each one has two barbecue grills, a large fire pit between the two shelters, and restrooms adjacent to the Sugar Creek Shelter. The facilities are completely handicapped accessible with level, paved sidewalks and ample parking.
The purpose of this event is to celebrate the 10-year anniversary of our favorite sport with a barbecue/potluck lunch, GPS games, and socializing. Groundspeak has decided to create a special 10 Years! Anniversary Event icon to commemorate the celebrations this weekend. If you attend a Ten Years! Event and are in the group photo, a special 10 Years! Anniversary Event icon will be displayed on your "Found" page.
A multi-event geocoin has been designed for all of the various 10 Years of Geocaching Events being held around the world. SLAGA will have their own version of this coin, which will be available for sale at the 10 Years!/SLAGA Spring Picnic on a first-come, first-served basis. For more information about the event, see GC23HA7 on geocaching.com.
